I remember Ron from his playing days at Mechelen (Belgium)in 1965, where he is still remembered as fine gentleman and great player.
I am currently reading the story of his Belgian team 'Racing Mechelen' and googled his name, not being aware of his passing away in 2014.

For some unknown reason, I googled Mr. Loneski's name tonight and found this sad news. Mr. Loneski was a practice teacher at Washington High School when I was there. He coached our powder-puff football team; leading us to victory! What a great guy. He taught us real plays, not just "run over there" or "throw the ball". I have a picture of him and me during practice when I have my football pads on. What fun he was! My heart goes out to his family and his close friends who I know must miss him.

As an old Racing Basket Belgium teammade, I personally appreciated the very wise words Ron spoke to me , supporting me and advising me how to rebound as a smaller player.I remember that Ron was very proud of his small son, telling him to go and get the basket ball;;;; but coming back with a doll !! this was a very disappointing moment for ROCK RON.

My condolences to the Loneski family. I coached boys and girls high school basketball when Ron was coaching at Lincoln.
A gentleman and outstanding coach. A white coach at a predominately inter-city black school. He had a lot of success coaching, but I remember him for mentoring student-athletes.
Never knew he was a war hero. Looking back I could see why. Honest direct and to the point. I considered Ron a friend and we spent many hours bantering about his days at Kansas. One of my favorite all time San Diego Coaches.
If Ron is buried in San Diego, I would like to attend the service.
Sincerely,
Manny Silva. [email protected], home phone 619-224-5582

My father, Skipper, told me what a great athlete and man Ron was before I ever met him (when I was still in grade school). He was a legend in his own time.
