Elmer Leo Epperson, a beloved family man, sports fan, and outdoorsman, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Bentonville, Arkansas, on March 29, 2026, just three days short of his 86th birthday.
Elmer was born on April 1, 1940, in Pine Valley, Oklahoma, the son of Eva (Essman) and Austin Epperson. He grew up with a tight-knit group of siblings, Kenny, Lois, Sherman, and Dave, and many cousins and extended family. Elmer and his family migrated to Kansas early in his childhood. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kansas in 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Moore, on May 19, 1959. After high school, Elmer went straight to work before joining the U.S. National Guard for 4 years.
Elmer was an incredibly hard worker and provider for his family, spending most of his career in transportation as a food service delivery driver in the Topeka, Alma, and
Lawrence, Kansas area. In 2003, after retiring he and Charlotte moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. Shortly after the move, he became an elementary school bus driver for the Gravette School District for four years.
Elmer loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golfing, and family camping trips. Elmer loved to join his wife and sister on weekly trips to the casino. Elmer was a loyal Kansas Jayhawks fan, consistently following the NBA, LPGA, and NASCAR.
Survived by his wife, Charlotte (Moore) Epperson, their children Alan Epperson, Eric and Marge (Novotny) Epperson, Aron Epperson, and Paul Epperson, two grandchildren, Kelsey Rockey (Zack) and Haley Gleue (Casey), and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Sherman, and daughter Stacey.
Services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 17 at Grantville Community Building, 3877 South St., in Grantville, Kansas.
