Marjorie Miller Obituary

Marjorie Jean (Zwiers) Miller, 69, died September 14, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Marjorie was the third of five children born to Henrietta (Hamer) and Harris Zwiers on April 18, 1948. She graduated from Zeeland (Michigan) Christian Grade School. She was first in her class of 139 in Zeeland High School, graduating in 1966. She then enrolled at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and earned a degree in 1970.

For graduate school, she chose the University of Kansas earning two Master's Degrees at KU while working as a teacher and also in clerical positions.

She met and married David Miller in 1979 and decided to forego completing her Ph.D. in order to help her husband's public service endeavors.

Following David's election to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1980, she worked as an assistant in the KU Graduate School. The Miller's spent 10 years splitting their time between Eudora and Topeka as Marjorie was always with David and both enjoyed the active life of serving in the legislature.

In 1985, the Miller's created the Miller Agency, Inc. in Eudora and purchased the Bagby and Hoover Insurance Agency. She worked at Miller Agency until she retired in September 2014 following her inflammatory breast cancer diagnosis.

Marjorie loved our Lord. While at KU, Marjorie got acquainted with the newly formed Mustard Seed Fellowship. She enjoyed the worship and love she experienced there.

After her December 22, 1979 marriage to David, she joined him as member of the Eudora Methodist Church. She was the first director of the church hand bell choir arranging music for the choir. She loved worship music.

The Miller's attended worship services at both the Mustard Seed and Methodist Churches for many years. For the past several years, they have worshiped at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. She was a member of the Gideon Auxiliary.

Marjorie participated with her husband in Kansas politics. She was elected Republican precinct committee woman for Eudora in 1992 and was re-elected every two years. She was a member of the Kansas delegation to the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego, CA.

The Miller's enjoyed travel for both business and pleasure. They went to Europe and Alaska several times and especially enjoyed their four trips to the Near East including Israel, Jordan and Egypt.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents. Marjorie is survived by her husband; her sisters, Judy (Bill) Huizenga of Zeeland, MI, Ruth Walter of San Diego, CA, and Mary (Mark) Whited of Plainwell, MI and by her brother, James (Suann) Zwiers, of Zeeland, MI. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-laws, April (Robert) Bascom of Marana, AZ and Karla (Randy) Pierce of Eudora, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora, KS.

Funeral service will be conducted by Reverend William Vogler at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary - Eudora Chapel in Eudora.

Private burial will be held at Eudora Cemetery.
