Diane Bannen Obituary

Diane Bannen was my grandmother. She always was, and always will be Bebe to me. She was incredibly mysterious. I didn't learn that she was a member of Mensa until we were going through papers after she passed. I didn't know how she met my grandfather until very close to the end. Bebe had a very specific brand of love. It was a weird combination of tough love, and generosity. She encouraged me through everything, showed up at our house every birthday I had, and went to almost every event that I had. It's a surreal mix of memories, from her being my greatest supporter when I ran cross country, to her giving me tips on my first soccer game, when she had never played the sport. My last memory with her was a good example of how she would encourage me. I had a recital coming up, the weekend that she got sick. This was my first recital playing guitar, I had previously only played piano. She was going to come, but then went to the hospital. That woman let me bring my guitar into that tiny little room, and play Bob Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door. I had no idea that she liked Dylan. After I played, she told me she actually had some of his records, and that if anyone found them, I could have them. 6 days later, she was gone. Eventually we found the records. She had great taste.
It's almost Christmas now. In an hour and a half it will be the seven month anniversary of her passing. I don't know what possessed me to write this now, maybe it's the fact that it's the first Christmas without her. I love her and I miss her, and that will never change. But she would want me to be strong in her passing. I hope that writing this will help me with that.

Diane was a wonderful member of the Mensa76 Brunch Bunch and a very supportive friend. We shared many email topics and enjoyed our similar philosophies. I miss her a lot.

I am saddened to see another loss to the Allen family. All of the Allens were very special to the Rogers family while growing up in Lawrence, Kansas.

It was my privilege to call Diane my friend for almost 12 years. She was a member of the Red Hats Club which I have the honor of leading. All of the members will miss her greatly. This lovely lady will be greatly missed. Please accept my deepest condolences which I offer from the depths of my heart. May time someday bring peace & comfort to all the members of her family.

I just learned of Diane's passing, and I am saddened by it. She was a lovely person.
