Christi Meacham Weidling, 76, passed away on February 13, 2025, at her home in Norman, OK.
Born on November 5, 1948, in Clinton, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Edgar and Alice Gene Stratton Meacham. Due to her father's career in agriculture, Christi spent her early years in Jet, Balko, and Miami, Oklahoma, before graduating from Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas, in 1967.
On January 26, 1968, Christi married Johnny Weidling in Austin, Texas. After the marriage, she moved to Lawrence, Kansas, to continue her education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1974 and a Master of Arts in English in 1977 from the University of Kansas. From 1974 to 1979, Christi taught writing and literature at KU.
Her career path led her into technical communications and electronic publishing, where she worked for a variety of organizations, including a computer company, a medical equipment manufacturer, and Marion Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company. Christi served as president of the Kansas City Chapter of the Society for Technical Communications and authored several works, including an independent studies textbook, a writer's style guide, and various business and industrial manuals. A lifelong music enthusiast, Christi became involved in a jazz appreciation group, immersing herself in the history of Kansas City jazz and attending live performances with fellow music lovers. As a young professional, she was an active member of The Central Exchange, a community that supported women in achieving their full potential.
In the late 1990s, Christi relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she worked in marketing and advisory investment services for several multinational financial firms, including Wells Fargo, North Star Systems International, Charles Schwab, and Franklin Templeton Investments. She oversaw the creation of marketing materials related to investment and retirement.
Christi led an active and fulfilling lifestyle, practicing yoga and Tai Chi, and taking daily 5-mile power walks along the Bay. An avid moviegoer, she attended at least two films a week and had a deep knowledge of the film industry, including actors, screenwriters, and directors. Her intellectual curiosity extended beyond movies and music to include news, politics, and global issues. Christi was known for her lively personality, generosity, and caring nature.
After retiring, Christi moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to be closer to her parents. She remained close with friends from Lawrence, Kansas, and San Francisco, staying in touch through monthly phone calls.
