Byron Springer Obituary

Byron E. Springer, 89, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022, at his home in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. His wife, Marion, was by his side.

Byron was born on June 25, 1932, in Lawrence, Kansas. He was the son of the late Charles A. Springer and Vivian (Kagi) Springer.

Byron grew up and attended school in Lawrence. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1950 as president of his class. After high school, he attended the University of Kansas, pledged with the Delta Upsilon fraternity and graduated in 1955. He then enlisted in the Army. After his tour of duty, Byron attended law school at the University of Kansas and graduated in 1960. While in law school, he married Marion Peltier, daughter of Rear Admiral Gene and Lena Peltier.

After law school, Byron began his law practice with his father, Charles, in Lawrence. In 1971, the Springer & Springer firm merged with the firm of Barber, Emerson & Six to form the firm Barber, Emerson, Six, Springer & Zinn. Byron practice with the firm for another 44 years, retiring on December 31, 2015. During his years of practice, Byron demonstrated a strong commitment to his clients and to his community, serving as the President of the Kansas Bar Foundation among other professional and community service organizations.

Byron is remembered as a gentleman who was interested in the stories and lives of the people he met. He enjoyed golf, traveling, Jayhawk sports and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Byron is survived by his wife, Marion Springer, his sister Phyllis Springer of Paris, France, his son Byron, Jr and his wife Wendy Kearns of Seattle, WA, his daughter Allison Ambrose and her husband Joe of Davenport, IA, his daughter Carolyn Maddox and her husband, Bill of Littleton, CO and his grandchildren, Andy Ambrose of San Francisco, CA, Abby Ambrose of Chicago, IL, Sam Ambrose of Columbia, KY, Peter Springer of Seattle, WA, Theodor Springer of Seattle, WA and Emily Maddox of Littleton, CO. He was preceded in passing by his brother Charles M. Springer.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Heath Foundation at 316 Maine Street, Lawrence, KS 66044 or the University of Kansas Endowment Association at KU Endowment - Memorials. Services will be held in Highlands Ranch, CO at a late date.
