Bryan "Kent" McCullough

Private Inurnment for Bryan "Kent" McCullough, 80, Lawrence, were held at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. McCullough died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at his home. He was born September 26, 1931 in Wellington, KS. the son of William Jennings Bryan and Laverne McNeil McCullough.

Mr. McCullough lived in Tonkawa, OK from birth until the family moved to Great Bend, KS. in 1937. He attended Great Bend Schools thru 1947, graduated from Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, MO. in 1949, attended the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, OK. from 1949 to 1950, attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. from 1950 to 1953, and the University of Kansas from 1955 to 1958. He entered the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict in the 5th. Army Special Troops Battalion stationed at Camp Chaffee, AR. For Leadership School and at Fort Benning GA. for Officers Candidate School from May 15, 1953 to February 14, 1955. Mr. McCullough started his professional career with the DuPont Plant in Tecumseh, KS. Later he was a loss control specialist for CNA and AETNA and retired from Farmers Insurance Group in 1997.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, KS.

Mr. McCullough was an avid duplicate bridge player who had attained the Master Level.

He was a collector of many things. His brick collection was one of the largest in the world. He also collected license tags, Texaco oil and gas memorabilia, antique glass oil bottles, and K.U. memorabilia. He had written and illustrated a book about his collection of over 200 antique glass oil bottles. He loved dogs, especially red male dachshunds.

He married Janette R. Baldwin September 13, 1953 in Great Bend, she survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Lee Allen McCullough in 1982, and a sister Marjo Powelson in 2003.

Survivors include his wife Jan of the home, son Neil B. McCullough, grandchildren Jaclyn Lee McCullough and Dane Davies McCullough all of Lawrence, nephew Robert Powelson of Paradise Valley, AZ. and neice Lana Krug of Phoenix, AZ.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Lee Allen McCullough Scholarship Fund at the University of Kansas Endowment Association or Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana, Lawrence, KS 66044.
