I just learned of my sweet friend's passing. I feel as if I lost family. God bless her children and grandchildren whom she loved so much. Not to hear that laugh of hers seems impossible. RIP darling friend.

My mom (Nancy Kaul) considered Betty a truly special person and dear, dear friend for many years. Betty's name brought a smile to mom's face until the end of her life (she died in August 2023). I am sorry for this loss for the Laird family but also glad to read that--like my mom--Betty died peacefully in her sleep. Taking my mom to Betty's 90th birthday celebration at Brandon Woods' Smith Center is a nice memory indeed.

My late wife, Cindy, and I lived across the street from Betty and Roy throughout the '70s. They were a wonderful couple and our good friends. Their love for each other was palpable. Betty's voice on Audio Reader was uniquely soothing, and drew in listeners the more they listened. Betty was a kind, sweet, and very accomplished person. May she rest in peace.

We loved her poems that were published in the LJWorld and then her subsequent book of poems:
'Toast'. The book made wonderful gifts for friends and family over the years. Our heartfelt sympathy to her family; she will be greatly missed. Robert & Lee Ann Duver Lawrence, Kansas

Betty Laird was a terrific historian, actor, and so much more! She researched and wrote "Tea and Empathy," a history of the University Women's Club. Her astute research and extraordinary legacy will live on always and forever.
