William Bauer Obituary

William Cornelius Bauer (Neal) was born on January 31, 1949, in Highland, Kansas, and passed away on October 13, 2024, in Palm Coast, Florida.

Neal graduated from Highland High School in 1967, and began his studies at the University of Kansas that same year. While at KU, he was an active member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Following his graduation in 1971, Neal continued his education at Kansas University Medical School, receiving his MD degree in 1975. He completed his internship and residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, and ultimately became Board Certified in Psychiatry.

Neal practiced psychiatry for nearly 50 years primarily in Arizona and Nevada. He served as medical director for several psychiatric clinics in both of these states. Among those were Yavapi Regional Medical Center in Prescott and Montevista Hospital in Las Vegas.

Dr. Bauer's personal practice focused on patients with addiction issues. He was a highly respected and sought-after therapist, reflective of his easy-going non-judgmental personality.

Neal will be fondly remembered for his passion for the July 4th holiday. For many years, he provided a fireworks extravaganza, delighting family and friends in Highland. He was the favorite uncle and coolest dad to his children, nieces and nephews during this summer holiday.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Lou and Virgil Bauer and his wife, Heather.

He is survived by his children, Alex, Will, Jack and Harry Bauer; Katlin Flangas, Shaker Colmia and Matthew Gellner. His grandson, Niko, also survives along with siblings Rebecca Peterson (Larry), Ellen Simpson (Tom) and Gene Bauer (Judy), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Neal's life was held in December in Highland, Kansas.
