Sharon (Pine) Sabraw, 84, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025. She was born on September 18, 1941 in
Lawrence, Kansas, to Raymond and Hilda Mae (Bushey) Pine.
Sharon earned her high school diploma from Lawrence High School, a BS in Education from the Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia, Kansas, and a Master's in Education from Washburn University. She taught elementary school for more than 30 years both in Idaho and Kansas. She married John Sabraw in 1965, with whom she had three children. They divorced in 1976. Upon retirement in 2005, she continued to substitute teach, and she put much of her energy into organizing support services at River City Church such as programming, food for a senior's group, and meals for funerals.
Sharon cared deeply for her family, students, church community and neighbors. She always looked for the positive in any person or situation no matter how dire, often bringing her unique humor to bear. She raised three children as a single mother. She loved music and musicals, and played and taught piano for much of her life. She also loved to cook, loved going to the library and, for years, she read the newspaper every day, clipping crosswords and articles and mailing them weekly to family and friends. She was an avid life-long KU basketball fan.
She is survived and missed by her brother Roger Pine and sister-in-law Sue Pine of
Lawrence, Kansas; her sister-in-law Jane Pine of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter Stacy Sabraw of Durham, North Carolina; son John Sabraw and daughter-in-law Carmen Sabraw of Athens, Ohio; and her daughter Michelle (Sabraw) Sullivan and son-in-law Scot Sullivan of Flint, Texas; her granddaughter Isabella; nieces and nephews; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Steven Pine.
A private Celebration of Sharon's Life will be held on a future date.
