Ruby Newton

Ruby Dora Newton, 91, of Baldwin City, Kansas passed away on April 15, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Ruby was born in rural Douglas County, KS near Lake View on February 6, 1923 the daughter of Elmer and Ida (Beuerman) Athey. Ruby lived her early years in Douglas County and then moved to northern California during the years around World War II.

Ruby was employed in the Nutrition Department at Lawrence Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1985. She was her happiest when she was gardening; especially working in her beautiful beds. She also loved doing crochet projects from bedspreads to doilies. She fed and enjoyed watching birds, her favorite being Northern Cardinals.

On April 11, 1946 Ruby was united in marriage with Raymond L. Newton in Reno, Nevada. They moved to Keokuk, Iowa in 1955 and moved to the Lawrence area in 1960. He preceded her in death September 15, 2008.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers Paul Athey and Earl Athey.

She is survived by her daughter Andrea Newton of Baldwin City, Ks; sisters Pearl Grant of Baldwin City, KS and Rosabelle Dew of Topeka, KS as well as nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Newton will be cremated and no services are scheduled at this time. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com
