Roland Evilsizor Obituary

Mr. Evilsizor, 92, died peacefully in his sleep early Friday morning, September 19, 2025. He was living at The Health Care Resort of Leawood, long term nursing care unit for the past 3 years.

He was born October 5, 1932, in Urbana, Ohio, the only son of Emmett T. Evilsizor and Mary Petrie Evilsizor. He graduated from Troy High School in Troy, Ohio, in 1950. He was a 1954 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business accounting and a second Lieutenant Commission in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

Ron played guard and quarterback from 1950 to 1953 at Ohio Wesleyan University and was on two championship teams; being voted the most valuable player in his junior year Captain his senior year and named to the All-Ohio Conference Team. In 1977 he was elected to the Ohio Wesleyan University Athletic Hall of Fame.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957 attending flying training at Maldon A.F. Base, Missouri, and Reese A.F. Base, Texas. He was assigned to Forbes A.F. Base, Kansas where he was a B-47 pilot in the strategic air command. His crew received in October 1956 the Eighth Air Force Outstanding Crew Award.

He was employed as an agent for New York Life Insurance Company of New York from 1957 until his retirement Dec.1998. He became a Senior NYLIC Agent in 1977.

He was a member of the St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a long time Kansas University sports fan, The Ohio Wesleyan University Alumni Association, Team OWU Club, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, The 90th Strategi Reconnaissance Wing Association and served as a family genealogist.

He's also quick to remember the rewarding times in uniform, athletic and business with more great guys than you could ever imagine.

He married Barbara Jean Madl Barlow on November 8, 1957, at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. She proceeded him in death while living with him at the care center, July 29,2024.

Other survivors include a son, Jerry F. Barlow and his wife Mary, Cherokee, Iowa, daughter Barbara Jan Miller and her husband W. Conrad Jr., Leawood, Ks; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer, Conrad III (Cory) and Kelsey, Six great grandchildren, Marilyn, Franklin, Andrew, Charles (Carl), Jaxson, Ava, and Barrett. Niece, Sherry Graham of Troy, Ohio.

Mr. Evilsizor was preceded in death by his parents, sister Buena I. Lang, niece Pat Eleyet, and wife Barbara Jean.

Services for Roland E. Evilsizor will be Friday September 26, 2025 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W 13th Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044. Visitation opens at 9:00 a.m. Rosary service will be starting at 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by a procession to the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence, for a graveside service with military honors.

Donations in memory of Roland many be made to St. John's Catholic Church for the Cemetery Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
