Marcus Anthony Picou

January 13, 1977 - August 24, 2025

Born on January 13, 1977, in Redwood City, California, Marcus was the firstborn son of Jacqueline Carter and Marcus B. Picou. From an early age, he was known for his bright mind, inquisitive nature, and joyful spirit. He loved spending time with his little brother, Michael, his Uncle Jacques and his many cousins, and friends from church and school. He spent his formative years in East Palo Alto and Elk Grove, California,

In 2000, Marcus answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. His military service took him both overseas and across the United States, where he demonstrated dedication and resilience throughout his time in uniform.

A pivotal moment in Marcus's life came when he met and fell in love with Nuriza Zaheen Dean. The two were united in marriage on October 6, 2006-a bond that brought deep love and partnership into his life. Marcus had four incredibly wonderful children: Jeremiah, Angeline, Madeline, and Ziarah. Marcus cherished his role as a father and found immense pride and joy in watching his children grow.

Those who knew Marcus remember him as a man whose presence brought warmth to every room. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched as a son, brother, husband, father, friend, and soldier.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

Marcus, my heart is overflowing with love for you. I will always cherish the memories of watching you grow-from a joyful, playful boy to a devoted husband to Jenny and a proud father of four beautiful children. You brought light and laughter to our family, and your kindness and strength touched everyone who knew you. Though your life was taken far too soon, the love you gave and the legacy you built will live on forever in our hearts.

You have inspired me to want to accomplish so much in my life. Everything that I have done was to make you and mommy proud, and I promise I will continue to do so. I will never give up on my goals because I know what you have sacrificed to see me happy and successful. You will always be my hero, and I will always be your "big head." I love you daddy and I amiss you so much.

My "Boo-Cat" gone too soon. I remember the day he was born, and the joy I felt when Jacqui asked me to be his godmother, and the day he was Christened unto God to me. I took that role very serious, even though I wasn´t living a life that was pleasing to God at that time, I did my best to be a good godmother to my godson. I was so proud of him, my "Boo-Cat" had grown up, served his country, was a good husband to his wife, and a father to his children, and lived a godly life. We may not have talked much on the phone, but we kept in contact through Facebook, and text messages. We would always comment on each other´s pages. I was so proud of how he provided and spent time with his family, showing so much love to his wife and children. Our last text message to each other was in January on his 48th birthday, I said "happy birthday godson, Boo-Cat, I pray you have an amazing day, love you, God bless." His response was, "Thank you godmother, and may the Lord continue to bless your house, love you." I thank God for the 48 years He blessed me to have my loving, caring godson. He told me I can always call him "Boo-Cat."

Love Always, Valetta/godmother

To my best friend, the love of my life, my soulmate and father of my two beautiful girls that you blessed me with. Thank you for loving me unconditionally for 20-years. In your arms, I found solace and comfort. Every night, I lie awake, staring at the empty space beside me, wishing it were you. I wish I can pull you into my arms right now and hug and kiss you, but for now, I hug and kiss your heart and soul! MY ONE AND ONLY TRUE LOVE!!! I love you every day for the rest of my life. Can´t wait to be with you again.
Your wife, Nuriza

Marcus was one of the nicest person I ever work with at Stanford, never saw him get upset or raised his voice against anyone. I will always remember him.
