Phyllis J. Freeman

Phyllis Jean Freeman, age 66, of Edwardsville, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Family and Friends may call at the Visitation from 5 to 8 pm, Friday, January, 11, 2012 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made in Phyllis' name to the American Cancer Society and or the Wyandotte County Cancer Action in care of the funeral home.

Phyllis was born on October 26, 1946 in Huxton, CO. and then moved to Kansas City, KS where she grew up and graduated from Washington High School in 1963. In August of 1964 she married Robert Freeman and they later moved to Edwardsville where she has lived since 1980. She worked for Harbor Brothers Construction for many years, and in the mid 1980's started working for the City of Edwardsville as the Treasurer until she wasn't able to work due to illness. After she recovered from that first bout with cancer she went back to work for the City of Edwardsville as the City Clerk, a position she has held for the last 24 years retiring in July of 2012. Phyllis was involved in many civic organizations such as the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chamber of Commerce and the Vaughn-Trent Community Services. She loved to travel especially to warmer climates, and was an avid bowler and enjoyed doing so with her friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years Bob Freeman of the home, two sons James Freeman (Sheri) of Kansas City, KS and Randy Freeman (Terri) of Edwardsville, KS, her mother Penny Barnes also of Edwardsville, KS. Her brother Russell Barnes of Philo, IL., and four grandchildren Jamison, Hope, Michael and Chloe. As well as many friends and extended family that will miss her greatly. Phyllis was a true gem. We spent a lot of time together inside and outside city hall. You couldn't ask for a better confidant, employee or friend. My life is better because she touched it and I will miss her greatly.

Phyllis was such a sweet lady and always had a smile. I would always stop at City Hall to say 'Hi" while Chino and I would be out walking. She called Chino "the baby" and really liked her. I'll miss you Phyllis!

I was honored to have known Phyllis for a brief time but she amazed me with her light and love for life. I pray for her family's peace and comfort in knowing that she is with our Lord, not in pain and giving off her light from heaven. God Bless all of you.
