Patrick Callahan Obituary

Patrick Eugene Callahan, 81, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, in Lenexa.

He was born July 25, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Leo and Eileen Callahan, the second of six children.

He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Shawnee in the early 1960s. He married Annette Marie Roy when they were teens and had three children together before eventually divorcing.

He later married Debbie Olds.

He loved hearty breakfasts, Westerns, vintage cars, custard pie and Christmas parties. He religiously polished his boots and slapped on aftershave. He was devoted to his mother, meeting her almost every morning for coffee and cigarettes after working the night shift on the railroad. He had one order at the bar: Seven and seven.

He had a hard time telling his kids no, letting them do things like tag along on a freight train, even if it got him scolded.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; three siblings, Timothy, Shelly and Bridget; and his three kids, Patrick Jr., Jenny and Kim, and numerous grandkids and great-grandkids.

A celebration of life is pending.

I'm so sorry to learn of Pat's passing! It was several weeks ago, already, but for me, it's new. I wasn't expecting this at all. My heart is broken. He was always nice to me, and I loved him. I loved his easy-going, jovial nature, his steadfast strength, his giggling, warmth and how he was such a wonderful grandpa and great-grandpa to both my daughters and both my grandsons. His nickname for Ashley was "#1" because she was the first grandchild. She loved that. She lovvvved her Papa Pat! He came to my Grandson, Ashton's soccer game and to the kids' TaeKwonDo testing. Both my girls were doted on and had a fuss made over them so many times throughout the years. It warmed my heart. I never had grandparents so it was so important that my kids could experience having grandparents, and what wonderful ones they were to all the kids. Thank you, Debbie. My heart goes out to you. Blessings upon blessings to you.
Also, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to Pat's extended families -- his kids, grandkids, and siblings.
