On the wings of a Jayhawk, Norma Jean "Jeanne" Campbell Torneden, 83, went to be with her heavenly father, her loving husband, parents and siblings on December 2, 2024. The family will host a Celebration of Life on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary; 120 W 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. In Jeanne's honor, please wear KU apparel to celebrate her favorite team. Her ashes will be spread on her husband, Floyd Torneden's grave, at a later date.

"Jeanne" was born on September 21, 1941 in Holton, Kansas, the youngest of the five children of Winfred Harold and Lorena Alma Shoup Abbott.

Jeanne was a member of the Lone Star Church of the Brethren. Her formative years were spent in Eudora, Kansas until she met and married her husband, Floyd Frederick Torneden on March 27, 1964. They shared almost 42 years of marriage before he went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2005.

She also loved working jigsaw puzzles, sudoku and playing any board games with her grandchildren and friends, or cards with anyone who would join her. She enjoyed the girls trips with her daughters going anywhere and spending time with her loving family.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet Robb Kessler (Jerry), Perry, KS, Cheryl Robb Johnson (Dana), Fernandina Beach, FL and Jeanne Torneden Waisner (Scott), Lawrence, KS, and two sons, Fred Torneden (Deb) Manhattan, KS, and Lee Torneden of Baldwin City, KS.
