Leslie Regnier Obituary

Leslie Lee Regnier, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at his home in Lawrence surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 30, 1927, in Miltonvale, KS, the son of Emile John and Bernice Lippe Regnier. Les was married to June Church Regnier, who survives. Les was born in Cloud County, KS, before moving a year later to Lawrence. His family began attending the Lawrence Wesleyan Church when the Rev. Cooper came to town in the late 1930s. Les helped work the famiy farms around Lawrence and worked driving a gasoline farm delivery truck for several years before joining the Army in 1948. He proudly served in the Big Red One stateside and in Germany. After being discharged from the Army, Leslie helped build Interstate 70 between Manhattan and Junction City, KS, driving a dump truck. A few years later, Farmland Industries built a new ammonia plant east of Lawrence where he was a manager until he retired in 1987. Not one to stay still for long, Les worked for The University of Kansas Student Union until 1993. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always eager to visit.

Les is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Regnier Kelly, Topeka, KS and her family: husband, Patrick Kelly, and daughters, Erin and Colleen; step-daughter, Dorothy Regnier Burd and her family: husband, Steve Burd, and children, Jeffrey Pine and his fiancé, Amber Hendrick, Michael Burd and his wife, Alicia, and Lisa Burd; step-son, Steve Regnier, Baldwin City, KS, and his family: wife, Gretchen, and daughters, Erin Miner, Tulsa, OK, her husband, Vernon, and son, Charlie, and Sarah Davison, Lawrence, her husband, TJ, and their children, Harper and Hudson; step-daughter, Tammy Regnier Dreier, Billings, MO, and her family: husband, Keith Dreier, her sons, Ethan Bartley and Tristan Bartley; brother, Larry Regnier and his wife, Candice, other relatives and a host of friends. Les was preceded in death by his brothers, Ivan V. Regnier and Dwight E. Regnier; and grandson, Brad Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 at Connect Church (formerly Lawrence Wesleyan Church) in Lawrence with the Rev. Nate Rovenstine officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.

The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 14th at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Connect Church, Lawrence, KS or VNA Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

June, I was so sorry to hear about Les......it was always a pleasure to see both of you.....You will be in my thoughts, for a long time.....so sorry I missed the services also....he was a true gentleman, and a heck of a custodian!!!
