Dr. Capps was my advisor from 1983-1984. He accepted me into the school of education while we walked across campus talking about teaching - it was August and I had not applied because I had just come back from an overseas station. How much I learned or how inspiring he was as a mentor cannot be summed up in this short space. His quote - "you have to be on fire before you can burn out" - has stuck with me throughout the years and give thanks for the opportunity to know him.

Forgot to sign my name, about going to maybe get a beer sometime. Sorry, Karl. We have been friends since High School.

Karl, I'm so sorry about your loss. I lost my mother and 6 months later lost my father to suicide. I still really have not gotten over it, but I know they are with our Lord Jesus Christ. It's been a long time since I've seen you. If you need to talk, Facebook me and maybe get a beer downtown. Love you, man, and peace to you and your family. I just saw this and I don't get the JW.

I was a secretary in the School of Education during the 1970's and saw Dr. Capps on a daily basis. He was always so pleasant and respectful to everyone, including the lowly secretaries. His quiet smile and demeanor will always be remembered. Blessings to all of you.
