LaMonte "Monty" Lauridsen, age 76, of Baldwin City, died September 8, 2012, at Bridge Haven Memory Care Cottage, Lawrence. He was born January 14, 1936, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Lloyd Lauridsen and Lorna (Brewster) Lauridsen.

Monty also served the Baldwin Community in the 1980's as a Municipal Court Judge. He also officiated basketball and football games in the area for many years.

I was saddened by the news of Dr. Lauridsen's passing. Just this past Labor Day weekend, my husband and I spent time with dear friends from Baker. We were remembering staff members who touched our lives and I mentioned him. I was a student in his 9 a.m. Physical Science class-not my best subject-or classtime, following Monday night Greek meetings and trips to Jerry's. Once and a while, members of our class would drift off during lectures and this didn't go over well with Dr. Lauridsen. To get our attention, he would often drop a large metal ball on the lab table which never failed to get our attention. The smile on his face made it clear that he loved to see us jump! Although that class was not one of my best grades in college, I learned a great deal and decided to minor in science. Dr. Lauridsen was one of the first people I sought out for a letter of reference, when I interviewed for teaching jobs. He looked surprised when I asked for it but said he would be happy to do it for me. I knew him to be a man of honesty and integrity, good humor and great intellect. He will be missed by many but leaves a legacy of teachers who continue to touch other's lives.
