Karen Cadue Obituary

Karen Ann "Kum-Sah-Quah" Cadue, 66, of Lawrence, passed away January 16, 2012 at her home in Lawrence. She was born on January 3, 1946 in Horton, the daughter of LeRoy and Julia Mjissepe Masqua. After Karen graduated from high school she went on to continue her education at Haskell Institute earning a two-year executive secretarial degree and then earning her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in language arts with a minor in journalism from the University of Kansas in 1986. Karen worked from 1991 to 1994 for Kansas Governor Joan Finney as a Constituent Service Representative. She then went to work for Vangent Incorporated as a DA/DE operator in Lawrence, Kansas. Karen was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas, Native American Church and Drum Religion. She also served on the Gaming Revenue Ordinance Committee and was an avid KU basketball fan. In February of 1969 she married Steve Cadue in Topeka. Survivors include her husband, Steve Cadue of the home; three daughters, Michelle Cadue, Cheryl Cadue Middleton and Carole (Dennis) Cadue-Blackwood all of Lawrence; son, Michael Cadue of Lawrence; brother, Calvin Masqua of Lawrence; two sisters, Jeanette Little Sun of Lawrence, and Bernadette Thomas of Broken Bow, OK; six grandchildren, Kara (Chris) Deiter, Owen Blackwood, Isabelle Blackwood, Georgia Blackwood, Everett Middleton and Karen Middleton and one great granddaughter, Gabrielle Deiter; adopted sister, Lucy Wabaunsee of Anadarko, OK, and an adopted brother Mann John Falcon of Black River, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. A Native American Church wake service will be held at 5:00 P.M on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Wayne Jessepe's home on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be on Wednesday morning at the She-Wa-Ka-Ah Jessepe Cemetery. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
