Joseph H. Filbert

Joseph H. Filbert 74, Bonner Springs, Ks. formerly of Atchison, Kansas went to meet our Lord on Saturday June 29, 2013 at his home in Bonner Springs, Kansas. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday July 2nd with the Funeral Service starting at 7:00 p.m. both at the Alden-Harrington Funeral home. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 3rd in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Atchison, KS. Memorials can be made to St. Judes Hospital, and The Great Plains ASPCA both in care of the funeral home.

Joseph was born August 25, 1938, in Atchison, Ks the Son of Joseph F. and Ideila (Ogel) Filbert. He attended St. Joseph Grade School, and graduated from Maur Hill Prep School. He attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison and served in the United States National Guard. Joseph married Vivian G. Cerre. During his marriage of 55 years he fathered 7 children. Joseph worked for 45 yrs then retired from Huhtamaki / Sealright. After retirement continued to work at Wal Mart.

Joseph was a strong family man, not only raised his own children also opened his home to many foster children throughout those years, and any child asking for help. Joseph was an avid sports enthusiast especially loved Notre Dame. For many years Joseph coached softball/baseball for his family and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest sister Mary Foster.

Joseph was survived by his wife Vivian, Two sisters Shirley and Wilma Filbert. Children Tom, Pam, David, Kim, Tammy, Kenny, and Danny. 20 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren. He will be tremendously missed by all.
