Gwendolyn Leckron Obituary

Gwendolyn Altic Leckron passed away on Monday, August 19 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born May 4, 1941 in Detroit, MI, daughter of Ralph and Dorothy Altic. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1959 and from the University of Kansas in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in music education. She met Davis Leckron at LHS and on January 26, 1967 they were married. Soon after, she moved with Davis to Vietnam. During her time there she was heavily involved in the arts, including conducting the Saigon Choral. For the next 20 years Gwen and Davis lived and traveled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and the Middle East. In 1993 they divorced and Gwen returned to Lawrence. She taught music at Appanoose Elementary in Pomoma, KS until she retired in 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Jacque Weisler. She is survived by her son Bradley Leckron, her sisters Pam Altic Van Roekel (Bruce) and Nancy Kincaid, and her boyfriend David Kolb. She will always be remembered by her family and friends for her love of music and piano playing, her unique sense of style and her fun loving personality. I'm so sorry to hear of this. She was a really neat lady and im glad I got to know her over the years as she carpooled with my mom. I hope they're both catching up and enjoying music now wherever they both are now.

Pam and Bruce: Don and I are sending our condolences to you and your family as you celebrate Gwen's life. I met her a few times at the cabin at Lone Star and she was really a neat lady who I didn't know real well, but as I read her obituary, I can see that she lived a wonderful life and I know she always had you to depend on. Life keeps throwing us curve balls, but we can keep dodging them as they come. Seems like forever since we've seen you - you know where we live, for a while anyway. Best regards, Terri Gibbs

I am so sorry to hear of the death of Gwen. She was Gwen Altic when I knew her as our choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church. My brother, Steve Pendleton, and I (the former Helen Pendleton) sang in the church choir for years. I learned a lot from her, and called her a few years ago to reconnect and to thank her. Gwen and her family lived a few houses north of us on Connecticut Street, and I remember the tragic death of her father, Ralph Altic, who died when a train hit his car that was struck on the tracks. My deepest condolences to all her loved ones. May they experience the peace of Jesus.

So sorry to hear of Gwen's passing. I remember when the Altic family lived on Connecticut street and her father Ralph owned the Altic Champion Gas station in North Lawrence. Gwen's sister Nancy was a classmate of mine.
