Gerald "Jerry" Owen Hoffman

Jerry Hoffman, of Baldwin passed away on June 13, 2014 at his home. Jerry was born November 3, 1942 in Independence, Kansas, the son of Fred and Betty (Ringle) Hoffman.

Jerry was raised in Elk City, Kansas. From an early age, he helped his father and uncles farm their land. He graduated from Elk City High School in 1960, and began working for the General Motor's Fairfax plant in Kansas City, soon becoming their youngest supervisor. He worked there until retiring in 1992. He also was a member of the National Guard. After retiring, he drove "big" trucks for TransAm and Five Star Trucking. As a young man he loved hunting, gardening, fishing, boating, and cars. Later, he enjoyed playing sports with his wife, including tennis, racquetball and most certainly golf. After his cancer diagnosis he took delight in every new day, was thankful and appreciative, and never gave up hope.

Jerry was united in marriage with Kathy Holmes on October 17, 1970 in Coffeyville, KS. She survives of the home. They shared 43 years, and together had three daughters.

Surviving immediate family also include his daughters: Kandyce Lederer and Terry of Baldwin City, KS, Holly Blum and Brandon, of Olathe, KS, Heidy Schlueter of Wentzville, MO; grandson Derek Lederer and Samantha of Lawrence, KS, granddaughters: Mallory Lederer, Taryn Lederer and Sydney Lederer of Baldwin City, KS, Addison Blum of Olathe, KS, and Bella Schlueter of Wentzville, MO; grandsons Aidan Blum of Olathe, KS, and Brock Schlueter of Wentzville, MO; great-grandchildren Matthew and Madeline Lederer of Lawrence; brother Randy Hoffman and Diana of Independence, KS, and sister Jill Dozier of Spring Hill, KS.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Elizabeth, brother Fritz, and his beloved dog, Tucker.

A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Lighthouse Baptist Temple, Baldwin City.
