Eldon LaDon Mapes

Eldon LaDon Mapes was born November 4, 1942 in Norton, Kansas and passed away January 26, 2015 in Lawrence KS at the age of 72.

Eldon was born and raised in Norton KS and graduated in the NCHS Class of 1961. Upon graduation he enlisted with the US Army and served at Fort Riley KS. He married Phyllis DeYoung from Prairie View KS on October 19, 1963 and they celebrated fifty-one years as husband and wife. A man of many talents, Eldon worked at Newbury Lumber Company, First State Bank, Ozark National Life, Norton Carpet Shampoo and Norton County Abstract. He and Phyllis moved to Baldwin City KS in 2001 where they opened Executive Title Company.

He was preceded in death by his mother; Ethel Beulah Mapes, father Loyal R Mapes and step mother Creta Bennett Mapes. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, son Evan Mapes of Houston TX, daughter Daveda Leppke, son-in-law Kent Leppke of Bonner Springs KS, grandchildren Brandon Leppke of Omaha NE and Danae Leppke of Bonner Springs KS, one sister, Leta Rice of LaFeria, TX and her family.

A memorial service was held at 2 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Calvary Bible Church in Bonner Springs. The family suggests donations be made to support Danae's summer mission trip in lieu of flowers.
