Earl Haehl Obituary

When Earl Haehl was born in 1943, he was expected to live less than 24 hours because he had cerebral palsy. He received emergency baptism, but surprised everyone by surviving to 81, dying at home surrounded by family and his beloved cat. He was a devout Episcopalian, active in the church until he became too frail. He and his wife Anne were married by the Episcopal priest in Danforth Chapel in 1968. She survives of the home. He is also survived by two brothers, Stan (Betsy) of Ohio and Greg of Lawrence, His parents, Chez and Gretchen Haehl, predeceased him. They were blessed with two children, David Haehl and Kate Haehl Poulton, and a grandchild, Alex Haehl Poulton. They also helped care for several foster children. Earl also taught Sunday school and was active in Scouting. For some children, it was their first experience with someone with a disability. Earl graduated from the KU School of Journalism in 1968 and law school in 1974. After law school, he passed the bar exam and was admitted to the bar. He worked for the state government in several positions but eventually had to retire due to developing Parkinson's Disease.
