David Paul Jarmolowicz, a beloved husband, father, researcher, educator, and friend to many, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at his home in Lawrence, Kansas. He was 45.
David was born on July 14, 1976 in Port Huron, Michigan, to Kathleen (McCormick) and Paul Jarmolowicz.
After graduating from Northern High School in Port Huron in 1994, he studied psychology at Western Michigan University, where he received his bachelor's degree in 2000. He received his master's degree in psychology in 2006 from the University of Maryland. He then received a second master's degree in psychology in 2009 from West Virginia University, followed by a doctorate in 2011, also from WVU. While in graduate school at WVU, he met Allison Tetreault, a fellow behavioral science graduate student; they married on July 14, 2010.
Dave joined the University of Kansas in 2012. He was an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies for KU's Department of Applied Behavioral Science. He was deeply involved in research at KU, where he specialized in Behavioral Pharmacology, Experimental Psychology, and Behavioral Science and actively collaborated across universities, campuses, and departments.
Anyone who knew Dave saw the deep love he held for his wife and daughters. He was a devoted husband, an outstanding father, and an inspiring role model to anyone who was fortunate enough to see him in this role. He was also heavily involved in the martial arts community in Lawrence, helping teach classes as well as taking them at Prime Martial Arts. He was preparing to test for his black belt at Prime at the time of his passing. Dave was also highly regarded by the many students, colleagues, former professors, and mentors he met during his career. It's a devastating loss that will be felt by all who knew him.
Dave is survived by his wife, Allison Tetreault; two daughters, Evelyn Jarmolowicz and Vivian Jarmolowicz; his mother, Kathleen (Douglas) Fraser-Lee; his father, Paul (Marlene) Jarmolowicz; and one sister, Rachel (Michael) Peltier.
