Dale Barnard Obituary

1920 - 2022

On Tuesday March 1, 2022, Dale Alexander Barnard, father of three, passed away at home in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was 101 years old.

Dale was born on November 28, 1920 in Independence, Kansas. After graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville in 1940, Dale joined the Army at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. He was honor-ably discharged in June 1942 after suffering serious shoulder and neck injury while training in the 1941 Tennessee Man- euvers. Dale married and in 1953 moved his family to Lawrence, Kansas working for Farmland Cooperative until he retired in 1979.

Dale had a passion for life and at 101 years old had more energy than people half his age. His joy and zest for life was evident by all who knew him. At 99 years old, he traveled to Washington DC as an Honor Flight guest and referred to it as "a trip of a lifetime". He was a member of many clubs and organizations and was also a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Dale is proceeded in death by his parents, Jesse and Evelyn, two sisters, Garnet Thomas and Doris Bluejacket and one brother, Glenn Barnard. He is survived by three daughters, Ronda (Fred) McAfoos, Teresa (Stan) Miner and Renee Jenn- ings. He has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Honoring Dale's wish- es, a private family Mem- orial Service will be held on May 7, 2022 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Dale will be laid to rest in Restlawn Cemetery in the Garden of Veterans, Cof- feyville, Kansas. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Cedar Bluff Camp, 4707 County Road 2475 at 1:00pm where we can share the many remark- able stories and impres- sions he left on us and the world. Dale was deeply loved and a good friend to many. His outgoing personality and infectious smile will be greatly missed.

Memorial contribution may be made to Veteran Freedom Square. Dona- tions written to Comm- unity Foundation for Independence with VFS in the memo section. Veterans Freedom Square, PO Box 506, Indepen- dence, KS 67301.

Dale was a friend of my fathers and became a friend of mine. When I was a young corrections officer, I took an 8 dollar an hour pay cut to take my career path. I was broke and did not have money to get by. Dale, took it upon himself to loan me a hundred dollars. Still today, 25 years ago, I will never forget his kindness for helping me. He was a fine fellow and I will never forget it. Dale, thank you. Peace be with you friend

What a great person, Dale was. If all the people in the world would be a Dala Barnard, there would never be a bad word, bad talk, or any bad discussions about anything. He was a real human for all people to know. I don't know another person like him.
I live a few blocks west on Cr 4300, and many times in the past 15-20 years, he would ride his 4-wheeler over to see me about fixing or questions regarding a project he would be doing. One time I was working on my old 1949 Ford 8N tractor, and Dale rode up giving me a bushel of fresh grown corn he had harvested. My wife and I wish Dale would bring us some more. But as it has been written... good deeds will end one day.
And I found that ended today when I drove over to see him, and the trailer was gone from the garage, and no auto parked under the carport. There! I knew the final story he would tell had been told.
