Jeff Smith Obituary

N. Jeffrey Smith, 83, of Taberg, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family as he ascended into God's loving hands. He was born in Foxboro, MA, on June 21, 1941, a son of the late Norman and Doris (Wolverton) Smith. He served in the Army National Guard from 1964-69 and on February 2, 1991, he was united in marriage to Patricia Narolis. Jeff was a founder of Oneida Molded Plastics in North Carolina in 1972, before transferring to New York in 1993, to continue his career as an engineer. After retiring from his first passion, he began working as a Courier for Rome Hospital lab, officially retiring in 2021. His childhood consisted of fond summer days spent on his Uncle's potato farm in Easton, Maine. In between working, he would spend time learning about tractors, fly fishing and developing his love of tinkering. Uncle Jeff, as he was known to everyone, was a man of many talents. Always keeping his hands busy, whether it be on the piano or rebuilding an old car, he quickly became everyone's go-to handyman. There was nothing he couldn't fix. Two of his most cherished restorations were his 1969 Corvette Stingray and his 1950 Model A John Deere tractor. Other hobbies included riding his Harley, boating, woodworking and toy modeling. None of which were completed without a freshly packed pipe in hand. Jeff had a mind of brilliance and a yearning curiosity to learn new crafts. His playfulness was infectious from the boardroom to daycare, where he spent decades entertaining and influencing young minds. Most notable was his love for sweets: brownies, cookies, candy, ice cream; there was always room for dessert, especially the one on your plate. Those surrounding Patty and Jeff could not help but notice the unwavering love for each other. Their marriage was a demonstration of loyalty, compassion and true love. The soft sweetness that was shared between them was one of true best friends. We would all like to thank Aunt Patty for her devotion and constant care. Because of you, every day was filled with laughter and love. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Hospice Care and to the nieces and nephews that came together for support. Surviving besides his loving wife of thirty-four years, Patty; are a daughter, Tracy (Larry) Carter, of Mooresville, NC; a son, Joel (Peggy) Smith, of Burlington, NC; one sister, Jennifer (Marty) Rivard; two brothers, Russell (Judy) Smith, and Timothy (Mary) Smith; one brother-in-law Randy (Pietra) Narolis; one grandson, Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews. Jeff was predeceased by two sister-in-laws Sandy and Pat; three brother-in-laws, David, Dan and Stevie. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
