Robert Handyside Obituary

Robert Thomas Handyside, 91, of Harrison City, died on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Jan. 13, 1935, in Wilkinsburg, to the late James and Ellen (Jones) Handyside. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James R. (wife, Florence) Handyside, Terrence A. Handyside, John G. (wife, Linda) Handyside, and Kenneth (wife, Erna) Handyside. He was an optician for 40 years and owned Handyside Optical in Monroeville until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed his retirement working and playing golf at Murrysville and Clover Leaf Golf Courses. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church. Robert is survived by his beloved spouse of 66 years, Andrea; children, Andrea H. (husband Alan) Roberts, Christine H. (husband Jeffrey) Vereb, and Robert Alan Handyside; two grandchildren, Michelle N. Vereb and Dr. Stephanie V. (husband, Dr. Ryan) Sweeney. Great-grandchildren, Thomas "Tommy" Sweeney and Edith Rose Sweeney. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, at LINDSAY-JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., 3343 Route 130, PO Box 465, Harrison City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at St. Barbara Roman Catholic Church, Harrison City. Interment will follow in the St. Barbara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne Nursing Home, Greensburg, or St. Barbara Roman Catholic Church.
