Leroy D. Rhodes, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Born on July 10, 1942, to Chuck and Garnet Rhodes, Leroy lived a life defined by kindness, loyalty, and a genuine love for the people (and dogs) around him. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger, only future friends. A proud Vietnam War veteran, Leroy was honored with the Vietnam Service Medal, Marksman Medal, and Air Medal. After his service, he worked at JV Manufacturing Company, where he built not just a career but lasting friendships. Leroy was happiest when he was with his family. He never missed a school event, a game, or a chance to show up for his girls and grandchildren. If you looked into the stands, you could count on seeing him there supportive, proud, and probably chatting with someone nearby. He had a gift for helping others, whether it was a friend in need or an "older lady" at Giant Eagle who needed a hand. Helping people wasn't something Leroy did; it was simply who he was. At home, Leroy could usually be found in his yard, tending to it with care, waving to neighbors, and stopping to talk with anyone who passed by. And if there was a dog involved, even better. He never met one he didn't like and never passed up the chance to give a good scratch behind the ears. He loved to fish, cheer on the Steelers, and faithfully complain about the Pirates each season. And while he wasn't known for his cooking, his grandchildren gave him one undisputed title: maker of the world's best toast, though exactly what made it so special remains a family mystery. Leroy is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Rosko Rhodes; his cherished daughters, Courtney Nemet (EJ) and Mandy Beck (Adam); and his amazing grandchildren, Brody, Emma (Koltin), Zach, Ethan, Austin, and Benjy. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and showing up for others. This is something his family and all who knew him will carry forward. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
