Chester Napierkowski Obituary

Chester T. Napierkowski, 78, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Lower Burrell and Tarentum, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Chester was a 1965 graduate of the former Arnold High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He was a member of the 1965 WPIAL Championship baseball team that is being inducted into the 2026 class of the Alle Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame. He graduated in 1970 from the University of Buffalo, where he played football. He briefly played professional football for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the Canadian Football League. He retired after 31 years of service from Allegheny Industries in Brackenridge. He proudly coached Lower Burrell Youth football and baseball for many years and Burrell High School football for 12 years. He felt that coaching "his boys" was one of his greatest accomplishments and maintained friendships with many of them for years after. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Sophie Dolniak Napierkowski; his brother, Dennis, in infancy; his grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Bonnie Ganz Napierkowski of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Kristen Myford of Myrtle Beach, SC; son, Dan Myford (Nicole Roberts) of Wexford; grandchildren, Max, Sam, and Elle Myford of Grove City; brother, Richard Napierkowski (Kathy Karrs) of Lower Burrell; nephew, Seth (Jen) Napierkowski of Fox Chapel; and niece, Tess Napierkowski of New Kensington. Arrangements are through BURROUGHS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES of Murrells Inlet, SC. A celebration of life will be held April 25, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, SC, and in Lower Burrell, PA, at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Burrell High School Gridiron Club, Lower Burrell, PA, or All 4 Paws Animal Rescue in Murrells Inlet, SC.

Dave and I met Chester and Bonnie at A Place at the Beach II, in Garden City, NC, many years ago and became friends. Went out to eat and watched the Steelers play on tv with our friends! Have visited them since their move to the beach and will miss him very much. He was a great guy and will be missed by many. Thinking of you Bonnie and Kristin, and sending hugs and prayers. May you rest in peace, Chester.

My memories of Chester are too numerous to count, our high school days and so many fun times with Him and Bonnie are foremost in my mind. May he rest in the arms of Jesus and may God grant peace to Bonnie, Max, and Kristen.

I have spoken w/ Chester several times over the past several months in preparation for our induction into the AlleKiski Hall of Fame on May 16th.
I inquired how many members of the team were planning to be present at the ceremony and he replied, "Most plan to attend, but we will see how many are still alive then."
Obviously, Chester will be watching from 'the other side'
The fragility of life.
I 'grew up' playing youth sports w/ Chester in Lower Burrell over sixty five years ago.
Fate led us to Arnold HS and fortuitous success on the gridiron and the baseball diamond. I had the good fortune to throw many completions to 'my tight end'.
Cherished memories lasting a lifetime.
Sadly, Chester's untimely demise will require those of us remaining to carry his spirit w/ us as we celebrate these achievements.
It is my hope that Chester's family, friends and loved ones find peace and solace in the almost eight decades he walked this earth and the eternity he will have in the next.
Peace, my brother.

I had the pleasure of being Chester's teammate on the 1964 football team. In fact I lined up next to him as the left tackle. Chester was known as the gentle Giant. A very good athlete not only in the 3 major sports but he was also a good golfer. Chester was an all-around good guy. I enjoyed our conversations. Chester may you rest in peace.
