Josephine Davis Obituary

Josephine L. 'Jean' Sorace Davis, 99, of Scottdale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Louis Sorace and Vincenza Grisafe Sorace. Jean graduated from Scottdale High School in 1944. She married V. Don Davis of Connellsville in 1950, who worked as a circulation manager for various newspaper publications, and there began an exciting and eventful journey before Don's death in 1984. Jean was an avid bridge player. She worked as a recordkeeper for numerous businesses in Ohio. In 1987, she moved back to PA and enjoyed the companionship of the people she worked with at the Borough of Mt. Pleasant and the Scottdale Public Library before her retirement. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Sorace (1973), his wife, Sylvia Tuggle Sorace (1994); her sister, Angie Snyder (2012) her husband, Harry Snyder (1999); and her brother, Vinnie Sorace (2012). She is survived by her sister-in-law, Gladys "Dumpy" Sorace; her nephews, Bill Sorace and his wife, Connie, Ron Sorace and Annie Cohen, Vince Sorace, and Joe Leos, and Paul Snyder and his wife, Terri; her nieces, Linda Sorace Crites and her husband, Jim, and Lynne Sorace Kendrish and her late husband, Bob. Her great-nephews, Larry Sorace, Jimmy Sorace, Ronnie Sorace, Bobby Sorace, Ethan Snyder; and her caring cousins of the Phillips, Rizza, and Grisafe families. The family would like to thank the kind staff of Woodcrest Senior Living, Harmon House, and the loving care given by Graine Hospice. A Mass will be held in memory of Jean at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, in St. John the Baptist RC Church, Scottdale, with Father Michael Sikon officiating.
