Garrity, John M., M.D.
CLIFTON PARK - John M. Garrity, M.D., 76, completed his journey through life, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
He was born in Oak Park, Ill., on October 30, 1949, to the late Edward J. Garrity and Yvonne E. Garrity.
John was a 1967 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, Albany, N.Y. While attending CBA John was a pole vaulter on the track team. During his senior year, he was one of the captains of an undefeated track team. From there, he attended the University of Vermont, where he earned a BA in Zoology. After graduation, he attended Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D.
John practiced Emergency Medicine in the greater Chicago and northwest Indiana, until his retirement from medicine. In addition to his duties in several emergency departments, John also had administrative and teaching duties.
He was an avid model railroader and household handyman. He was very proud of the renovations he made on a 1930s house in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.
He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Parish in Ushers, N.Y.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Catherine L. Garrity; nephews, Michael Garrity and Patrick Garrity; his brother, Edward Gerald Garrity; and wife, Mary Ann.
Survivors include his brother, Albert Patrick Garrity; and his wife, Judy, of Hudson, Ohio; his sister, Judith Ann Armstrong; and husband, Arthur, of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and his sister, Joan Ellen Garrity, O.C.S.O. of Dubuque, Iowa. He is also survived by his nephew, Mathew Armstrong; and nieces, Cathy Roberts, Lynn Traxler, Karen Murray and Michele Armstrong. Additionally, he is also survived by his children, Thomas S. Over and Denise J. Haggerty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Corpus Christi Parish, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes, N.Y.
