William Newsom Obituary

I would like to send my condolences to Dr. Christine and her family. Dr. Newsom was the best to work with and for. He was adored by his patients and their families. He was truly a gentle and kind man.

Bill was such an extraordinary man. He compassionately and kindly diagnosed Charles with CLL back in 2007 and contacted a former classmate of Bill's, by then the head of hematology at UCSF, who served as Charles' doctor throughout his treatment and probably saved his life many times. Charles also passed this month, but we were both always and forever grateful to Bill for his knowledge and his kindness.

Doctor Newsom was my beloved oncologist who always gave 100% of his undivided attention to each of his patients. He helped me battle my breast cancer at 47 while telling me, "you are in the drivers seat." A brilliant doctor who cared deeply for his patients, his community and his beautiful family. My heart-felt condolences are shared with Christine, Peter, Joanna and Emily. Please know your husband and dad (who diagnosed me 2006), literally saved my life and I imagine 1,000s of others. Bill Newsom was a life very purposely lived. Blessings to the entire Newsom Family as you carry on his meaningful legacy.

I met Dr Newsom when I worked at the SNMH. He was so professional and loved his patients. He gave so much to our community and his gifts will will always be with us.

What a wonderful man Bill was. I had the privilege of working for him at the Cancer Center. He was sharp, kind, considerate and full of passion. He was the best doctor and boss, along with Dr. Campbell, I ever worked for. It was an honor. RIP Bill, you will always be remembered. Our sincere condolences to Christine and family.

Bill and Chris were my first friends (through Trinity Episcopal Church in NC) when we moved here in 1986.
Bill was a kind, compassionate doctor who helped my husband's aunt pass without fear or being alone.

My heart and love goes out Chris, Peter, Joanne, and Emily and their family.

Dr. Newsom took great and compassionate care of me. He got me through! Forever greatful.

Bill moved through his days with dignity, decency, and humility evident to all he encountered. He was both a "Good Man" and a "Physician´s Physician".

Dr. Newsom got me through advanced breast cancer 15 years ago with humor and great kindness. I truly enjoyed my visits with him. He was never hurried and we always had fun conversations. I cried when he retired even though I only saw him once a year. I'm so sorry for your loss of this most wonderful man. Heaven has gained a truly beautiful soul.

I admired Dr. Newsom very much, he was my oncologist when I acquired colon cancer in 2021. He was caring and a tentative to my every need while I was being treated. My cancer was diagnosed very early so I am one whom survived at the time many were being treated within the Nevada County Cancer Center. The facility was an absolute pleasure to go once a week for my treatments. I only wished I could have had Dr. Newsom as my oncologist when I again was infected with breast cancer, although again diagnosed in an early stage and I have survived with the treatment I have received with the radiation department of SNMH. Thank you Dr. Newsom for your service and the Cancer Center. "May you Rest in Peace"

I knew Bill and Chris , in San Francisco and Grass Valley. What kind, gentle souls they are. Bills light will continue shining in our hearts whenever we need it.Sending LOVE

So sorry for your loss, Chris. I´m glad that I was able to say a few kind words to Bill at the InConcert Sierra intermission. You were his strength throughout his decline. I hope to attend Bill´s memorial next Spring. He was a remarkable man in so many ways.

What an incredible human. He has done so much for the people in Nevada County. Personally, I am still here after discovering a fast growing estrogen negative breast cancer in 1996. His recommendations for treatment for my stepfather`s aplastic anemia extended his prognosis from six weeks to six years! We were blessed to have him in our lives.

Bill's resilience, heroic kindness, and humble service to others shaped his approach to life until the very end. His wonderful qualities left a legacy now evident in his children. Chris has been his perfect partner in all these respects. We send our deep sympathy and hope the family will take comfort as they cherish a rich storehouse of memories.

Christine I am so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working with you and Bill while I worked in the Cardiopulmonary department at SNMH. He was a pleasure to work with. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Bev Cary.
