Robert Wieland, born March 11, 1944, unexpectedly passed away on November 30, 2024 at his home.

Bob was born in Orlando, Florida. He spent the first 20 years of his life in Uganda, Kenya and South Africa, as a child of missionaries. He then came to the United States for college and eventually settled in Oakland, CA where he began a long career in the insurance industry.

A man of many passions, Bob had a deep love for music. He delighted in playing classical piano and singing in the choir at St. Patrick's Church in Grass Valley. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and camping.

Above all, Bob cherished being a devoted father, grandfather and husband. He loved spending time with his daughter, Sonia, son, Ian and grandson, Ronan.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo (Castruccio) Wieland, his children Sonia Zubareva (Dmitry Zubarev); son, Ian Wieland; grandson, Ronan Zubarev; brother, John Wieland, M.D. (Michael McLaughlin); sister, Margaret Ott (Charles Ott); and his nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned on January 30, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Grass Valley with a reception to follow.
