JOHN WILLIAM KNOX, JR.

November 21, 1934 – July 28, 2024

Cayucos – John Knox, affectionately known as "Big John," passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, after spending a memorable weekend with his family. His passing was the result of a chronic illness. Born in Oklahoma on November 21, 1934 – a birthdate he proudly shared with his most recent great-granddaughter – John's family relocated to Wasco in the 1930s.

Throughout his life, John formed many lasting friendships. His journey included time at Pasadena College, service in the U.S. Army, and a career in insurance that took him to Fresno, Bakersfield, Visalia, and finally to Cayucos, California for his retirement.

In Bakersfield, John was remembered as a devoted follower of Christ and was actively involved in his local church. He was one of the founders of Murray Knox Insurance and enjoyed serving many clients in the area. He was an avid fan of the LA Dodgers. Friends recall his caring nature and how he and Donna generously opened their home to many.

John leaves behind his best friend and wife Donna, whom he often referred to as "the most wonderful woman in the world." He is also survived by his four children: Jonna Schengel/Don, Robert/Rachael, Janie McComb/Ted and Johnny/Leslie, as well as 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at the Visalia First Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 10 AM.
