Edward Paul Brady was comfortable with himself, his surroundings, his friends, and his faith. He loved his career as a self-employed professional photographer, and his real- estate meanderings and other ventures when he retired. He was close to his family and was always ready to help anybody with any need. He was especially happy when helping others.

Ed passed of natural causes at age 88 on January 4, 2025 at Clyde W. Cosper State Veterans Home.

Ed was born in Cameron, Texas, to Charles Abner Brady and Esther Hilsberg Brady. He was the youngest of four children who preceded him in death. He attended Cameron Yoe High School, graduating in 1954. Following high school, Ed worked with his father as a professional photographer in Cameron. He learned his trade from the best. After a few years, Ed opened his own photography business in Hearne, Texas, where he met his loving wife of 66 years, Dixie Lee Tidwell Brady. Ed and Dixie fulfilled their marital vows with love and honor, until the best friends parted upon his death.

While in Hearne, Ed proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Texas National Guard out of Cameron. He was called to active duty during the Berlin Wall Crisis and served his time in the 49th Armored Division at Fort Polk, Louisiana. In 1968, Ed and Dixie relocated the family and the photography business to Arlington, Texas. Ed continued helping families make memories with his portraiture and candid wedding skills for many years to come. Although Arlington was not a large city at the time, Ed foresaw tremendous potential in the Arlington area, and was very
proud of his choice, as the business, and his family flourished with the city’s historical growth. Ed retired from the photography business in the early 90s and continued his working life as a real estate agent, locksmith, handyman and many other ventures. His favorite leisure pastimes were boating (he built his own boat!), fishing, helping his brother Charles with construction projects, and walking his beagles.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Dixie, son Carl and his wife Marianne (son Patrick), and son Jim and partner Gary.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ed’s remarkable life at Memorial Funeral Home, 802 S. Market St, Hearne Texas on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Visitation with Family: 1:00 PM and Memorial Service: 2:00 PM. The memorial service will be led by Ed’s nephew, Kenneth Murdock, who will be sharing reflections and memories of Ed.

Donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.

We send our deepest sympathy to the Brady family. Ed became a big part of our family in the late 60s, when he did a portrait of our blended family. He continued to be our family photographer for portraits and special occasions such as anniversaries, engagements and weddings. My sister Lisa worked for him and learned so much about photography that she used throughout her life. He and Dixie shared in many of our family celebrations. We consider them dear friends. It was a joy knowing Ed and he will be missed. He has left behind a legacy of precious memories.

Ed was a wonderful neighbor and became part of our family in our time in Arlington. We are blessed to have had him in our lives. Ed had a kind demeanor and was energetic with life. I enjoyed having him assist on house projects and providing insights on how to complete a project as his neighbor. Our dogs were extremely fortunate to have him close by to spend time with them during the day and give them care while my wife and I were at work. We will be forever grateful to have found neighbors like Ed and Dixie when we moved to Texas as they became our extended family and made settling into Arlington so much easier. Ed will be dearly missed. Prayers to Dixie, Carl, Jim, Gary and the rest of his family.

Ed gave me my first job and I owe my love of photography to him. I will never forget his wit, humor, and infectious laugh. I was blessed to have such a wonderful “first job“ experience.
