DELMAR "DEL" WALKER

September 30, 1934– June 11, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Delmar "Del" Walker, who departed this world on June 11, 2024, at 89. Born in September 1934 to Harris "Johnny" and Erma Dee Walker, Delmar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by adventure, curiosity, and dedication to his family.

A native of Texas, he grew up in multiple towns as the son of an Army drill sergeant. As a small child, he lived on the island during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He spent his teenage years in Oxnard, California, before leaving to play professional baseball with the Dodger's minor league. He called Bakersfield, California home for 40 years before retiring to Joyce's hometown of Kokomo, Indiana.

Hardworking by nature, he held many different jobs throughout his life, including firefighter, mechanic, and environmental engineer.

He was the devoted husband of Joyce Kathryn Walker (Miller), who predeceased him in 2015, the father of Scott Walker (Stuttgart, Germany) and Lisa Parks (Lynchburg, Virginia), grandfather to Mia Powell (San Francisco, California) and Joy Marlies Palfoeldi (Stuttgart, Germany). In recent years, he remarried to Gerry Walker in Kokomo, Indiana.

An avid ball player, scuba diver, photographer, dog lover, traveler, reader, saxophone player, and camper, Del enjoyed various interests and was once crowned the Twist King of California. He found joy in nature, especially near the ocean and discovering ocean life. He taught his children to be lifelong tidepool explorers and stargazers. Introverted by nature, he still enjoyed connections within his church communities and as a long-time San Joaquin Sport Divers member.
