Brian Terhorst Obituary

Brian Terhorst

12/12/1962 – 7/30/2024

Brian F. Terhorst of Grass Valley, Ca died suddenly in his home on July 30, 2024. He was 61 years old.

Brian was born in North Carolina on December 12, 1962 to Major Bernard R. Terhorst, USMC and Barbara M. Terhorst. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings Anton, and Tara (Sanders), his ex-wife Genevieve Sweeney and his stepson Jeremiah James.

He is survived by his siblings Peter Terhorst (Valentina), Jennifer Terhorst, and Meaghan O'Shaughnessy; his ex-wives Amy Olson and Gail Stone; his beloved girlfriend Anne Ward; and his Canine Companion service dog, Coppola.

Brian was a treasured fixture in Nevada County, particularly well known for producing the KVMR Radio show, Harmony Ridge, and for his leadership in community radio, with roots dating back to 1991. Brian was quoted as saying "My relationship with KVMR has been my life's longest love story."

He lived with the neuromuscular condition, Pompe Disease, for which he was an ardent advocate and educator. Brian studied Historic Architecture in college and was an avid fan of the ghost town of Bodie in California. Also, a prolific writer, samples of his work can be viewed at https://harmonyridge.org/. His positive attitude and enlightened presence drew people to him. He will be sorely missed by his family and the community. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall to honor Brian.

Many years ago, I discovered KVMR. I was so excited to find the music that was missing on other radio stations. And then I found Brian´s Harmony Ridge program. It became a staple in my life and I looked forward to Saturday mornings with anticipation of the music to come. As I listen to many of the artists he shared on his program, I will be forever grateful for his sharing his time and music with us. Brian, you made my life better. You are missed.

Brian, your love of "music in the acoustics" brought joy to me and so many others. Your contributions to KVMR have left a legacy that will benefit generations to come. You were a true public servant and steward of our lands, our history and our airwaves.
