Anthony Rua Obituary

Anthony Steven Rua "Tony"

March 13, 1956 – September 4, 2024

Tony passed away on September 4th in his home.

Tony was born March 13, 1956, to Carl and Pat Rua at Grass Valley Community Hospital. His childhood was spent hunting and fishing, and he had great memories of weekends spent at the hunting club.

Tony graduated from Nevada Union High School and joined the Air Force where he spent the next 5 years as a radio tech in both Germany and England. He returned home after his service and for the next 30 years worked as a heavy equipment operator for the County of Nevada.

In October of 1982, he met his future wife Jennifer Kate in Nevada City. They were married on August 18, 1984, and just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Tony loved hunting and fishing and has passed down that passion to his children. Tony has a big heart and was always the first to lend a hand whenever asked.

Our home was often overrun with our children's friends. He was proud that our house was the place to come and play. We hosted many gatherings with our church family.

He retired at the age of 55 and we spent the next 3 1/2 years living in Hawaii where he fished off the cliffs and caught some crazy looking fish.We moved back to Grass Valley in 2015. We tried out living in Idaho for about 3 years, but Grass Valley was always home.

Tony was an incredibly loyal and honest man who loved his family above all else. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him including his sister, Carla Rohm, his wife Jennifer Rua, his children, Lydia Carter and Carl Rua, his bonus daughter, Amy Bien, as well as his 6, soon to be 7, grandchildren, Brodie and Bailey Bien, Seth and Naomi Carter, Judah and Asher Rua, and great grandchildren, Parker and Walker Bien.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 21st at 10am at the Church of Christ on Whiting Street in Grass Valley.

Any memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Foothills in Grass Valley.

When I was only a few years old, Tony lived over the fence from me. We would stand, each on our side of the fence, and just look at each other. I remember on Valentine's Day he came running out to the fence and gave me a small box of candy. I was so excited I ran in the house to show my mother and she gave me a small box of candy to return to him. I may have been only three or four years old but I remember it well and remember my heart being all pitter-patter. We moved away and I never saw him or heard anything about him again until I saw this in the paper about his passing. It's lovely to read that he's had a good life and a wonderful family.

Many memories of hunting and fishing with Tony up at Weaver Lake.
A fine man he was, and easy to like.
Rest easy Ol´ Pard.
Condolences go out to the family, and Mike & Carla who introduced me. With Respect,

Tony was my neighbor growing up on Brock Road. He was always so fun and kind to Dan and myself. I will always remember his smile. I glad we passed paths in this life. See you in Heaven Tony! Sympathy to his Wife and Carla! Hugs!
