Alden Johnson Obituary

Alden Dale Johnson

May 30, 1937 – January 29, 2025

Born in Aberdeen, Idaho, Dale was a devoted husband to Jeanie [Jean Durham] and a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He relocated to California upon graduating from the University of Idaho and getting married in 1959.

Dale was hard-working and dedicated, and spent his entire 34-year career working for PG&E...starting as an Electrical Engineer and working his way up to Manager of the Colgate Division as of his retirement in 1993.

Dale fully enjoyed his retirement by delving into many passion projects. He parlayed his interest in Cajun/Zydeco music into a 20-year run as DJ of Bayou Country at KVMR in Nevada City. He also engaged in numerous projects stemming from his interest in the rich history of the region and the origins of hydro-electric power.

He was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Most certainly, his favorite pastime was spending time with his 4 grandchildren and he was thrilled to embrace his new title "great grandpa" in 2024. In recent years, he dedicated his weekends to watching his granddaughters play competitive sports.

Dale is survived by his daughter Karen Morgan (Dan), son Scott Johnson (Regan), grandson Nick Morgan, granddaughters Emily Szyper (Brian), Shelby Johnson, and Riley Johnson, and great-grandson Beckham Szyper, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Miners Foundry in Nevada City, a cause close to Dale's heart.

We find comfort in knowing that our Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

Dale was a great man and more importantly a great Brother of mine. Terribly sad he passed. Many great memories of him as my "big brother". Love you and RIP.

I enjoyed playing Cajun and Zydeco music with Dale at KVMR and was delighted when he took over the show. Here's a photo of Dale at the controls with Louisiana Sue and the woman who I believe had the show for a while either before or after Dale, though I can't remember her name. This was on 12/23/1993 (I'm in the Santa hat). Dale was a great guy and fun to be around to share our mutual love of this homegrown American music. I also was impressed with his stories and writings about the history of some of PG&E's power projects. My condolences to his family.
