Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late, Dewey "Dude" Luther Adams and Bennie Elliott Adams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Luther Adams of Creedmoor.
She was a proud and active life-time member of the Whittier United Methodist Church. Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love beyond measure. Her life was a shining example of one of God's "special" angels. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, of 56 years, Keith Maddox; children Nathan (Nancy) Maddox of Franklin and Tonia Maddox Edwards of Whittier; grandchildren, Savanna and Sarah Maddox of Franklin and Samual Edwards of Whittier; sister-in-law, Kay LeQuire Adams of Creedmoor and her daughters and their families; niece, Connie Adams (Rodney) Boone and their daughters, great-nieces, Erin Casey Boone (Lee) Wyatt with one son, Bennett Boone Wyatt; neice, Renee Dawn (Dustin Walters) Boone; niece, Dawn Adams (Curry) Adcock and their children; great-niece, Kerri Adcock (Matt) Black and their children, Vera Grace (Kurt) Black, great-nephew, Stuart Lee (Harli Sam's) Adcock with one son, Jerry Han Adcock all of Creedmoor; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Rodney and Lacey Maddox of Wake Forest and their children, Maria, Marina and Cristina; great-nieces, Alympia and Lara all from Raleigh; and friends too numerous to name, whom Peggy loved and cherished as her "own."
Peggy grew up in Whittier and attended Whittier elementary, graduated from Swain County High School in 1964 and shortly after, she graduated from Knoxville Business School.
While attending Knoxville Business School she worked as a secretary in the draft induction center in Knoxville, Tennessee at Unto These Hills and Cherokee CETA, a teacher at South Western Community College, a paralegal at Holt, Haire and Bridges Law firm, co-owner of Nantahala Rafts and Gorgarama Park, as a co-owner/salesperson at Wesser Ruby Mine at the Swain County, Florida State Fair and NC State Fair locations.
Civically, she has served on the Whittier P.T.A., as a Democratic judge during elections at Almond School and as chairman of the Swain Co Health Board. Governor Jim Hunt appointed her to the N.C. State Health Board that met in Raleigh and she was recognized as Democrat of the Year by Representative Liston B. Ramsey.
There will be no service, per Peggy's wishes.

I loved Peggy. However, it has been several years since I last saw her (at the panning place she owned). She was one of the people who always had a smile and a kind word for you. I worked with her at Unto These Hills - many years ago, and grew up in Whittier with she and Jerry - also many, many years ago. She will be missed by all who knew her. A truly wonderful person.

Peggy was such a caring person with the best smile. I cherished her friendship through the years and can still remember back to school shopping for our kids so long ago now. My prayers and love to Tonia and Sam, Nathan and family, and Keith.
