Maxine Smiley Obituary

BRYSON CITY - Maxine Tallent Smiley, 94, went home to be with the Lord and her loved ones Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late James Claude and Eva Cunningham Tallent and wife of the late Earl H. Smiley.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Coburn Tallent, Mildred Bryson, Lail Tallent, Des Hyde and Harley Tallent; and great-granddaughter, Latasha Nicole Wiggins.
She is survived by her children, Lois Smiley Wiggins, JoAnn (Ray) Cloer and Larry (Bobbie Sue) Smiley; grandchildren, Earlene Wiggins, Kevin Owle, Earl Owle, Callie Cutler, Krystal Pendergrass, Sheena Green, Kecia Smiley and William Howard; great-grandchildren, Sierra Hodge, Destinie Taylor, Evan Owle, Emmylou Cutler, Ellie Cutler, Elias Cutler, Harper Taylor, Finnley Owle, Wyatt Yates, Savannah Yates, Makayla Pendergrass, Breanna Pendergrass, Lola Pendergrass, Isabella Rain Green, Coleman Green, Peyton Matthews, Mallori Matthews, Emma Brock and Baysden Howard; great-great-grandchildren, Jacoby Hodge and Natasha and Nicole Hodge; brother, Harry Tallent; sisters-in-law, Inez Tallent and Leo Smiley; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 29 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Reverend Justin Ledford officiated. The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial followed at Swain Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Wayne Owle, Earl Owle, Trevor Brock, Mitchell Green, Brandon Cutler, Derick Pendergrass and Wyatt Yates.
