Max Ball Obituary

OTTO - Max "Mack" Ball, 77, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024. Born July 5, 1947, in Bryson City. He was raised on Lands Creek by his devoted grandmother, Cora Cook. Max honorably served in the United States Army from Nov. 7, 1966, to Nov. 6, 1968, dedicating two years of his life to serving his country during a pivotal era.
Max was a beacon of love and reliability in his family, cherished as a devoted husband to Wanda Brendle Ball and a loving father to Nicholas Max Ball, Nathan Scott Ball, Judy B. Mullen, Nancy (Danny) Foster, Beth (David) Cline-Stroud and Melody "Crickett" (Marty Carpenter) Cline. His legacy extends to his grandchildren, Logan Pierce, Sydney (Cody) Durm, Bailey (Weston) Welch, Brayden Cline and Gelisa Nations; great-grandchildren, Haven Welch, Hudson Pierce, Lawson Welch, Peyton Welch, Kaylee Muse, Timothy Muse, Aryanna Nations and Lakota Nations. He is also survived by his brothers, Troy Lee Collura and Elmer (Tinker) Collura; and sister, Nancy Kay Clark.
Max was preceded in death by his grandmother, Cora Cook; parents, Elmer and Ethel Collura; brothers, Tony Collura and W.C. Bryant; and grandson, Matthew Nations.
Known affectionately as the "Mack of all trades," Max was a hardworking, loyal and kind soul who never hesitated to lend a hand. There wasn't anything that he couldn't do or fix. He was always our first call and was always the first to show up, no matter what the problem was. He loved his family fiercely and was loved even more fiercely. He showed up and stepped up whenever he was needed, no questions asked. He never spoke an unkind word of anyone and was a friend to many. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone he met.
A celebration of Max's life was held Tuesday, July 23, at Macon Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. His life, marked by dedication to his family and service to his country, will be remembered and honored by all who knew him.
