Arvil Simonds Obituary
BRYSON CITY - Arvil Vincent Simonds aka Paw, 83, of the Alarka Community went home to be with the lord Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, in the comfort of his home. A native of Swain County, Arvil was born Feb. 14, 1941, to the late Clayton and Annie Simonds.
Arvil has been retired from the DOT as a machine operator for 23 years. Paw, as everyone called him, loved being in the garden digging up taters and growing vegetables. Being on the lake and going fishing with his family. He also enjoyed going to the coast to go hunting. Paw loved all his family and spending time with each one of them. He also had Tom the cat by his side throughout everything. A true love story from start to finish 64 years of marriage. Gladys and Arvil started out with just five kids, the love they started has now blossomed and spread into many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nanny and Paw are now reunited again with the lord looking down watching over all the family.
In addition to his parents Clayton and Annie Simonds Arvil is proceeded in death by his loving wife, Gladys Welch Simonds; brothers, Virgil Simonds, Jeff Simonds and Marvin Simonds; parents, Clayton and Annie Simonds; along with sons-in-law, Edwin Larry Simonds and Mark Price.
Arvil is survived by his brother, Dillard (Karen); sisters, Betty, Shirley, Marilyn, Evenell and Laura; sons, Bobby (Frieda), Thomas (Darleen) and Carl; daughters, Kathy and Cindy (Mark); grandchildren, Larry (Amber), David (Cindy), Brandon (Aubrey), Brooklyn, Heather, Sherissa (Bracken), Kena (Billy), Tina (Rick), Jason, Brooke, Tori, Noland, Ethan (Sabrina), Kaddi, Karri, Kassi and Becky; great-grandchildren, Katie, Hunter, Joslyn, Madison, Waylon, Billy, Jaden, Wrenley, Weston, Cyrus Bull, Raelynn, Emerlyn, Noah, James, Collin, Jennifer, Braxton, Lily, Caden, Paxton and Piper. Arvil has also left behind his favorite cat Tom.
The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Larry Simonds, David Simonds, Doug Woodard, James Woodard, Kenny Stewart and Steve Buchanan. Pastors Tim Barker, Morris Tippett and Tully Griggs will say a few words on behalf of the family at the gravesite.
