Mattie M. Bishop Reynolds (nee Floyd)

age 81, of Hammond, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Mattie is survived by her children: Jeffrey Bishop, Timothy (Marie) Bishop, and Roger Bishop; seven loving grandchildren and many precious great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Michael Anthony Bishop; daughter, Norma Jean Davy; parents, Jefferson and Alexis Floyd; five siblings; and two grandchildren. 

Born and raised in Tracy City, Tennessee, Mattie brought her Southern Charm and to everything she did and her voice carried the gentle, melodic cadence of the South. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life – tending to her garden and cooking hearty meals for her family that filled her home with love and laughter.

Mattie was the heart and soul of Lake Driving School in Hammond, Cedar Lake, and Crown Point as well as Rite Way Driving School in Highland, where she served as both owner and instructor. With her steady hands and gentle encouragement, she turned countless nervous beginners into skilled drivers. 

A devoted Scout leader for many years, she nurtured young minds with the same patience and pride she showed behind the wheel. Above all, family was Mattie’s world – her unwavering devotion to them was the cornerstone of her life. 

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Avenue, Schererville, IN 46375. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
