Vernon Leroy CRESS Obituary

Aug 24, 1931 - Mar 22, 2026

Vern Cress passed away peacefully at the age of 94. He was born at home and grew up in the Hillyard area of Spokane, where he graduated from Rogers High School. He served in the 161st Infantry and was honorably discharged from the National Guard of Washington. He worked for Central Pre-Mix Concrete Company as a mixer driver, dispatcher, and salesman for 40 years. He was known for being hardworking and having a mind that could problem-solve and fix nearly anything. In the 1950s, he assisted Henry Arbes, his uncle-in-law, with constructing the Shrine on the Hillside above St. Joseph's Cemetery. He was an avid Gonzaga Bulldogs fan and enjoyed traveling with the love of his life, Ann Goodrich, with whom he was married for 57 years, and now joins her in eternal peace and love.
