1939 - 2025
May 21, 1939 - Dec 12, 2025
Robert "Bob" Brandenburger passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on May 21, 1939, Bob grew up in Ladue, St. Louis, Missouri. He had two brothers, Tom and Don (deceased), whom he dearly loved; along with his father, Roy; mother, Marie Elise; and Jean, Don's beloved wife.
Bob attended Ladue High School, where he was captain of both the football and basketball teams. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Denison University, where he earned his degree in business/marketing.
Towards the end of his employment years, Bob moved to Seattle, Washington. In 2001, Bob and Betty were introduced. Their first date was kayaking on Lake Washington, followed by a long hike, and in the evening, they enjoyed the Seattle Symphony. They were soon married, and he joined Betty in Spokane, a city he came to love.
Being a devout Christian, Bob's faith guided the way he lived, laughed, and loved. He enjoyed life's many pleasures. The art of fly-fishing became his! For 70 years, the beauty of the rivers and his fascination with the sport provided joy. He encouraged Betty to become his fly-fishing partner, and she quickly joined him! The St. Joe River and the Big Wood River, both in Idaho, became their earthly Heaven!
Betty introduced Bob to long-distance bicycle riding throughout the PNW. Years of cycling and exquisite scenery became God's gift.
Bob treasured First Presbyterian Church of Spokane; the pastors, the music, and the messages. He became very involved in the Men's Ministry and committed himself as long as possible.
Bob loved family life. Although he never had children of his own, from Betty's children, Bob was blessed with five beautiful granddaughters who became his stars, Claire, Audrey, Kayla, Rachel, and Jessica. To Bob's surprise, they all called him "Poppa," a loving name he cherished. Soon enough, the entire family did the same! We all continue to call him "Poppa!"
Bob's love for his entire family and his gratitude for the joy of living and loving God will always be remembered.
"Poppa" will always be in our hearts forever.
Please join us in celebrating Bob's life at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., on Friday, March 27, at 1 p.m. Reception to follow.

I remember when Betty announced to a group of First Pres Singles that she and Bob were going to marry. She was absolutely glowing with happiness! Bob made big changes by moving to Spokane which I admired. He and Betty modeled a healthy happy marriage and Bob became an active member of First Pres. His faith was strong. I´m so glad God gave them each other to love and grow in faith together in this chapter of their lives. God comfort Betty and family as they miss Bob here but rejoice in the hope of heaven and happy reunion.
