The world is missing one lovely and spirited angel with the passing of Mary Magdalene Clifton on March 14, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her two sons and son-in-law.
Mary was born in Walker, South Dakota. The family moved west to Yakima, Washington, where she met and married Stephen Festus Clifton.
Preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Festus Clifton, and son, Larry Lee Clifton; Mary is survived by her sons, Danny Ray Clifton (Debbie) and Stephen Ray Clifton (Edward); grandchildren, Cory and Kyle Clifton; and sister, Terry Paul.
Mary enjoyed attending her grandson's baseball games and bowling tournaments in addition to gardening, crochet, knitting, and puzzles. She also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her brothers and sisters at Grandma Red's home on Sundays, which the family affectionately called "Sunday Soup" days.
In any space she occupied, her infectious smile and effervescent personality shined through. Quite simply, she made others smile with her down-to-earth warmth and ability to make connections in a complex, and at times, disconnected world. 92 years sounds like a long time, but it is truly too short for special people like Mary. We should all take some measure of comfort in knowing that Mary loved her family and friends deeply….and that true love never dies.
A brief service will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 7200 North Wall, Spokane, WA, on June 6, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. A burial will follow shortly after the service.
A reception nearby is planned to take place from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. at The Onion Bar and Grill, located at 7522 North Division Street.

I worked at The Academy in Activities when Mary lived there and I enjoyed her effervescent personality so much! She was a joy to be with. God be with you all.
