1981 - 2026
Joe was a Rogers High School graduate and worked as a steel worker until March 19th, 2005 when he fell from a roofing project, significantly injuring his head and back. His back had a persistent ache. In the fall of 2025 he finally had a spine procedure to relieve the pain he had been living with for years.
Joseph always looked forward to visiting his grandparents. He enjoyed lending a helping hand with his Grandma Schell's rose garden, appreciating huge "Mica Burgers" when visiting grandparents Lynn and Cecil Boyd, playing board games with friends and family - especially cribbage with grandparents Irene and Pat Hellman.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Cecil H. Boyd, Patrick J. and Irene L. Hellman, and his paternal grandparents Bernadine E. Schell and Byron Wood Johnston, and his father Byron "Mike" Johnston.
Joseph is survived by his grandmother Lynn Boyd, his mother Daisy L. Cassidy, stepfather Joseph W. Cassidy, and stepbrother Eric W. Cassidy. Stepmother, Kim Pham and stepsiblings Jimmy Miller, Danny Nguyen and Anhtrinh Nguyen, half-brother, Patrick W. Johnston and full siblings, Lucinda J. Johnston, Michael R. Johnston and Katie M. Johnston. Joe is survived by his four children, Jackson, Caleb, Macie and Jace. These four children were very dear to his heart, he loved visiting with them every chance he got.
He especially looked forward to holiday visits with his brother Mike, to their uncle Cecil A. Boyd and Mel's home for family gatherings. Joseph loved to take long walks around his neighborhood, playing his guitar, strumming to his own tune as he went. He loved lake fishing and being in nature. It meant a lot to Joe to attend Green Acres Baptist Church, a short distance from his residence. Joe believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior (John 3:16).
